February: Transition from Winter to Spring

by Vanessa Mahoney, LAc

March brings the transition from Winter to Spring, shifting our energy from pulling inward and conservation to outward expansion, growth, and new beginnings. The organs of the season are the Liver and Gall Bladder, and having a creative vision and the ability to make decisions to manifest it rests with the Liver/Gall Bladder’s strength. Harness the Spring energy to create your vision for 2017 and begin taking steps to see it grow and manifest!

March Wellness Tip:  A common ritual this time of year is spring cleaning, opening the windows during nice weather, and cleaning out the stagnation of Winter. It’s a perfect time to also cleanse our bodies physically and emotionally through healthy eating and increasing movement. Add dark, leafy greens, dandelion, and mint to your diet. Yoga and Tai Qi are great exercises for Spring because the Liver/Gall Bladder govern muscles, tendons, and nerves and are in charge of flowing and spreading of qi.

March Acupuncture Point: Liver 3 – Tai Chong (Great Rushing). Located on top of the foot in the depression between teh first and second metatarsal bones. A very commonly used point to spread Liver Qi. Apply pressure, breathe deeply, and visualize energy flowing smoothly through your body to help alleviate headaches, dizziness and vertigo, insomnia, depression, PMS, eye swelling or pain, and fright.

“For me, acupuncture used to be a once-in-awhile practice and felt like a luxury. Because of Kindness’ affordable community structure, I am able to integrate acupuncture into my weekly routine and reap the benefits of regular sessions. Whether I’m coming in for a specific physical issue, need help sleeping, or easing stress, acupuncture has become a vital part of my wellness.” -Alex L.
